Description:

Dent Fix DF-SP360 removes coating from outside surfaces, positions the shunting clamp at the spot weld site, and makes the spot weld at the adjacent site. The current chooses the path of least resistance when confronting non-conductive E-Coat, facilitated by shunting pliers. The E-coat at the mating surface burns away quickly.

In squeeze-type resistance spot welding (STRSW), additional measures may be necessary to shunt the current flow for a successful spot weld. Conductive coatings like zinc or weld-through primer increase resistance but still allow for successful welds. However, non-conductive coatings like E-Coat hinder spot weld completion. Dent Fix Shunting Pliers (Dent Fix DF-SP360) can preserve E-Coat on mating surfaces during STRSW.

The process with using Dent Fix DF-SP360 is rapid, and although most current flows between electrode tips, the current detour is brief yet necessary.

iCAR requires shunting of current in STRSW for the first weld when a non-conductive coating like E-coat or adhesive is present on mating flanges. For weld bonding, a dedicated shunting clamp should be used for optimal weld performance, helping save E-coat by removing less with shunting pliers.
